Dr. Erik Stauber, a professor of Small Animal Medicine, has dedicated
his service and support for over two decades to WSU’s College of
Veterinary Medicine. Erik is both internationally and nationally
recognized as a specialist in the field of zoological veterinary
medicine (also known as exotic medicine). Nevertheless, Erik’s true
passion rests in the area of raptors. Erik has shepherded the
much-admired raptor rehabilitation program at WSU for over 20 years. In
addition, Erik has been a member of the Speakers’ Bureau as a liaison
between university and community. As one of the most widely sought
speakers among departmental faculty, Erik has presented for public
schools, veterinary seminars, fish and wildlife departments, all over
the country and internationally, in an effort to raise awareness for
exotics and wildlife.
Erik spends much of his time in the hospital clinic. There he
examines patients, teaches the avian and special animal medicine
elective courses, and heads the zoological ward of the hospital. As well
as devoting long hours to the teaching hospital, Erik enjoys
coordinating the International Veterinary Student Externship Program. He
is a strong supporter of the Nihon University Summer Veterinary Student
Program, and has sponsored five of their graduate veterinarians for
one-year traineeships in the exotics and wildlife rehabilitation service
at WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
