TENER means TO HAVE. This verb is used with nouns (such as: garrapatas, tos, lesión). When using with a noun, the noun does not necessarily have to include its article.

1) ¿Que tiene el animal? (What does the animal have?)

2) El animal tiene tos. ( The animal has a cough.)
