Expression
CD113 is expressed on epithelial cells, testis, gut, kidney, brain, liver and placenta.  Nectin-3 is expressed at intracellular junctions



Structure

MOLECULAR FAMILY NAME: Belongs to the immunologlobulin  superfamily.

CD113 is a single-pass type-1 549 aa glycoprotein.  It contains an extracellular domain which contains 2 Ig-like C2-type domains, a N-terminal V-type domain and 6 potential N-glycosylation sites, a hydrophobic transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic domain.  CD113 belongs to the nectin family with the Ig gene superfamily and has a 30% homology with CD111 and CD112.

Ligands
LIGANDS AND MOLECULE ASSOCIATED WITH CD113

The extracellular region of CD113 interacts with nectin-1 (CD111) and nectin-2 (CD112) and the poliovirus receptor CD155.  It can interact with nectin-3 on the same or on other cells (i.e. cis- and trans-homo-interaction.

Function

CD113, the other nectins, an adhesion molecule involved in the formation between adherens junctions beween epithelial cells.  The intracellular portion of CD113 binds to actin cytoskeleton through afadin.  The extracellular portion interacts with other nectin family members, CD155, CD111 and CD112.
