GPA33 is expressed in normal gastrointestinal epithelium and in 95% of colon cancers.

GPA33 is a single-pass type-1 319 aa glycoprotein.  It contains a putative secretory signal sequence, a 213 aa extracellular domain which contains one Ig-like C2-type domain, one IG-like V-type domain and 3 potential glycosylation sites, a transmembrane domain and a 62 aa cytoplasmic domain.  The sequence of the extracellular domain contains 2 domain characteristic of the CD2 subgroup of the Ig superfamily.
