|IL11Rα is expressed in a number of cell lines, including the myelogenous leukemia cell line K562, the megakaryocytic leukemia cell line Mo7E, the erythroleukemia cell line TF1, an osteosarcoma cell lines, MG-63 and Saos-2. Also expressed in normal and malignant prostate epithelial cell lines.|

IL11Rα is a single-pass type-1 422 aa glycosylation. It contains a signal sequence, an extracellular domain which contains a 2-domain homologous to those of the receptors IL-6R and ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTFR), 2 fibronectin type-3 domains, a cytokine receptor-like domain and 1 Ig-like C2-type domain, a transmembrane domain and cytoplasmic domain. IL-11 is a stromal cell derived cytokine that belongs to a family of pleiotropic and redundant cytokines that use thr gp130 transducing subunit in their high affinity receptors. IL11Rα encodes the IL-11 receptor, which is a member of the hematopoietic cytokine receptor family. This particular receptor is very similiar to ciliary neurotrophic factor because of the type of domains in the extracellular domain.
Alternative splicing yields 2 different isoforms. There is a membrane isoform and a soluble isoform which lacks the entire cytoplasmic domain.
