Structure
MOLECULAR FAMILY NAME: Belongs to the galectin lectin family.

LGALS2 is a glycoprotein.  It contains a galectin domain.

POST-TRANSCRIPTIONAL MODIFICATION: No information

POST-TRANSLATIONAL MODIFICATION: No.information.

Ligands
LIGANDS AND MOLECULES ASSOCIATED WITH LGALS2: No information.

Function
The protein encoded by LGALS2 is a soluble β-galactoside binding lectin.  The encoded protein is found as a homodimer and can bind to lymphotoxin-α.  A single nucleotide polymorphisms in an intron of this gene can alter the transcriptional level of the protein with a resultant increased risk of myocardial infarction.
