Sweat glands, other than those in the footpads of the dog and cat, lose a portion of the apical cytoplasm and/or cell membrane with the secrete their products. What method of secretion is demonstrated by these sweat glands? This is known as the apocrine method of secretion. The sweat glands in the footpads of dogs and cats secrete their products, leaving the epithelial cells intact. These sweat gland secrete by the merocrine method of secretion. The pancreatic acinar cells (exocrine pancreas) also secrete by the merocrine method.
